In a world full of entrepreneurs it feels like no matter the industry you are in the competition is higher than ever before. Many of us entrepreneurs are seeking not only to do well in our industry, but dominate it.
How do you dominate your industry and build a business that will financially set you free?
There are many factors to dominate your industry. One, is being exceptionally good at what you do. Second, doing the work to build your empire. Third, having the mindset that will take you to limits only few reach. Fourth, having a personal style that attracts the type of clients you want to work with.
Over the past year as I was in the start up phase of my business, I made a clear observation, no matter how good someone’s presentation was I walked away from doing business with them if they had a poor image or personal style. I know this may sound shallow, however, how someone presents themselves tells a story. Your personal style either says you are successful or you are not. I can speak for all of us when I say, “We want to do business with people who are successful at what they do, and how they look is a direct reflection of that”. The assumption here is, if they can create results for themselves then they can create results for me.
Have you ever meet with someone you were considering doing business with and their shoes were unkept and worn down, their clothes were ill fitting or they wore styles that distracted you from what they were saying? Have you ever not given someone your business because of the way they looked?
Many of us can say yes to this question because we may see ourselves as someone who is successful and therefore want to work with others who portray the same image. Nothing says someone is unsuccessful or successful more than that first impression. We want to work with people we aspire to be like, or inspires us to step up our own game.
Many experts say you have 10 seconds to sell yourself, product, or service to someone. I agree, however, as stylist and entrepreneur I strongly believe that the first five-seconds your prospect is sizing up how you look, and how they feel about your image either gives or takes away value from what you have to say.
Go into the new year with a style that screams I am a professional, I am successful, and Im the person you want to do business with.
Here are 3 Style Tips to help you attract more clients into your business.
1. Develop an Authentic Style: Authenticity is the key to confidence. Everyone wants to work with someone who oozes confidence. When it comes to developing an authentic style, one must know how to dress in a way that expresses who they are. The more we are ourselves the more confident we come across to others, the more confident we are the more we attract the confident clients we want to work with. Having an authentic style can also make someone feel like they know us before they get to know us because they can get a sense of who we are just by how we look.

2. Dress for success, not to impress: As professionals we often think about our ideal client. We think about how they look, how much money they make, or maybe even their lifestyle. The one thing we think about most is attracting the client that can afford and see value in our service or product. So my question to you is, how can your personal style attract your ideal clients? Our Ideal client will see something in us they relate to or aspire to be more like. If you want to attract a client in a particular demographic, it is wise to have your business style be one that your ideal client will be attracted to.
For example, have you ever walked into a room and was drawn to a person based on the way they looked? Maybe you instantly knew you wanted to get to know them or even work with them if an opportunity was there. The mystery to attracting who we want into our business is mirroring their image. So if you want to attract high roller clients that can afford your higher priced services, you better look the part.
3. Dress tailored made and own the skin you are in: Have you ever looked at someone and thought I love how that dress fits her, or boy that’s a sharp suit? Maybe you even thought ” I wish I could look like that in …. The secret to looking good in your clothes is wearing clothes that are tailored to your body. No matter your body type, or if you are slim or curvy, wearing clothes that fit your body well and accentuates your positive physical attributes will tell the story that you are in control and you know what you are doing. For many men and women who are on the curvy side, they tend to want to wear larger clothing to hide features they don’t like, and in return only makes them look sloppy, unkept, or larger than they really are. Oprah is a good example of a curvy woman who despite her size wears clothes that fit her body, and most of us would she looks good at any size. If she wore larger clothes to hide her curves, she would come across as self conscious and maybe insecure. Rocking her body in clothes that accentuate her allows us to embrace her as a confident powerful person. Who doesn’t want to do business with someone who is confident, powerful, and knows how to embrace and love themselves even when them themselves may not be at their ideal size.
Recap: Attract more clients by boosting your confidence though developing an authentic style, dress to attract your ideal client, own the skin you are in by wearing clothes that are tailored to your body and present you as powerful, confident, and in control.
Investing in your personal style or image can be one of the greatest investments you make for your business in the next year. Start the new year truly being a newer more powerful you.
